This isn’t the first mountain bluebird I’ve seen, and it won’t be the last; there are sometimes great flocks of them winging and zipping and darting around the region right now. It WAS the first to settle semi close enough for me to “focus” on it (please forgive the lack of focus) and click the shutter so I could share his handsomeness with all of you. Winter may not have favored us this year, but spring is inexorably on its way.
About 12 years ago, I spent a long weekend in MT/WY with an ornothologist friend helping monitor around 300 Western Bluebird boxes.โWhile is sounds simple, the work was anything BUT simple.โBut it was exhilerating and fun…and shocking to have a blizzard in the Big Horns in July…and 90 in Sheridan.โAll in a day’s work.
Sounds like perfect weather and a perfect long weekend! ๐
I love these guys and their flashing blue finery!โYou’re right, TJ; spring is marching toward us and, once again, bringing drought with it unless something changes.
Yes, happiness and sadness in equal (?) measure. I sure hope we keep getting even bits of moisture. It’s nice to have the bright birds back. ๐
Beautiful. I don’t want to think about the D word. Still praying for more moisture for your area and mine.
Ugh, me, either. Here’s to the moisture we NEED – in your region and mine!
Aww, so beautiful ๐

Beautiful birds, indeed!
