Light and beauty, beauty and light

22 05 2011

Truly, sometimes I have no words. In the basin, with them, I just hang on tight to the moment, the moments, the glorious beauty all around me, us, them. They carry it with them … the world accentuates all that they are.

What’s the saying?

When God created the horse, he said to the magnificent creature: I have made thee as no other. All the treasures of the earth shall lie between thy eyes. Thou shalt cast thy enemies between thy hooves, but thou shalt carry my friends upon thy back. Thy saddle shall be the seat of prayers to me. And thou fly without any wings, and conquer without any sword. ~ The Koran

How could it be said any better?

These images were all taken from about half an hour before sunset to a little past the same day as the pictures in the “Till Dawn” post.

It’s plentiful, it’s prickly, it has slender, rubbery “leaves,” and the horses seem to think of it as candy. I’ve seen them surrounded by grass – actual grass – and still nibbling (as Gideon here) on greasewood.

Mama Houdini, baby Deniz and yearling Gemma were out of sight in a little draw down and behind Grey and Terra.

And good night …

I Absolutely love the two photos of Alpha that are her bathed in the golden light, the two right in a row that are orangey, right before Mouse. These are wonderful photos, TJ, and also I am getting good at recognizing almost all the horses just from the pictures, not the names, which I’m glad about. How many horses are there, TJ, and how many foals this year?

Ah … me, too. 🙂 No Photoshop besides unsharp mask. You ARE good at recognizing the horses! We have 78 horses as of a week and a half ago; nine foals (I expect two more since then but haven’t been able to get in because of weather). Still expecting quite a few more!

i was pleased to see you quote from the koran honouring Ishmael, Son of
Abraham…………………….the Arab Horse. i have to guess you left out some for political reasons. i want to add a comment every time i leave your site (very often) but feel my words are inadequate compared to those of your admirers that stay in close touch with you. the grandeur of your photos and script is
exceeded only by your warmth that glows through.

George – Thank you so much for your kind words! No … no political reasons, that’s just all of the quote I found on a quick search. I don’t know the entire passage. My politics – and religion, for that matter – can pretty much be summed up in the Golden Rule – “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Too much strife and unnecessary conflict in this world … just because of differing viewpoints. I think we have more in common than different. 🙂 I have long admired Arabians … my parents have an Arab gelding at home who will be 32 next month. We’ve had him since he was 2.
