Cougar

Little Cougar is a handsome little devil!

Trotting up to mama …

Here’s looking at you, kid!

Update: I look at these pix now, particularly the one above, and I wonder if Cougar’s not dun but grulla – the color of his grandma Slate (Hollywood’s mama, originally from Sand Wash Basin, introduced in 2001 with Luna and a dun mare). I’ll keep an eye on the guy – kinda exciting!

What do you think about his color? He still has his dunny baby coat, but look where he’s shed out. I’m almost certain Slate (grulla) was Hollywood’s dam by pictures someone else showed me years ago (he looked like a yearling, and he was with Slate), but this would almost confirm it, eh? No other grullas in the herd, and if she ever reproduced her color, I never saw it. At the adoption, we’ll have some “ambassadors,” and the horse to be used in the training demo was adopted in 2007. He’s … buckdun? Dunskin? He has traits of both colors, and I’m honestly not sure one single color – buckskin or dun – applies to him. He’s really gorgeous. I’m kicking myself that I don’t have pix!

Cougar is genuinely unique in color (and personality, I’ll bet)! Sure seems to have Iya’s nice wide, white blaze. Holls sure has “done himself proud!” He’s produced really beautiful and different-looking foals – all of them!!

Wait till you see pix of Varoujan. I thought he’d been rolling in the dirt or mud again until I saw him closer. He’s got some darker areas coming in. He’s definitely not “the little white colt” anymore.
