I know this doesn’t help, but follege is important to me in a calendar. Hayden or Winona look like July in Spring Creek and they are both precious. Your photo of Winona is prize winning if that helps…
Gideon is PRECIOUS!!! He’s my pick. I’d have gone for Winona, but the image (especially her body) is so dark.
Please forgive my questions, but I spent 25 years as a graphic designer (including several years of “Photoshopping”). Are your photos direct downloads or scans of prints? If they’re scans, are the darker originals actually lighter and more detailed? Just askin’.
Linda, I don’t know much about Photoshop, so I don’t do a lot with it – I usually add a bit of contrast, crop/size, unsharp mask and save. The photo of Winona was shot almost directly into the sun one late afternoon/early evening. I loved the backlighting on her little mane and the cheatgrass and the illuminated bugs (as Tami said – part of summer in the basin!). The photos lose a little in translation from the full file to the low-resolution images I put on the blog, but they’re fairly close. For me, that image of Winona isn’t about the shaded side of her body, it’s about the halo of light *around* her body! But that’s one reason why it’s so hard for ME to choose – my mind remembers all those things – I remember my whole field of view, where mama was, where I was, the heat, the bugs, her baby-curiosity. I do so appreciate everyone’s help (and your questions!) because I find it just nearly impossible to choose! 🙂
We both really like what the light does to young Mr. Hayden, plus the detail of his mane, face and tail – and then there is that “heart” on his forehead – Love it!
For August I picked the photo of “Gideon and Winona” and I’ve been trying to pick my favorite photos while trying also to select a ‘variety’ of horse representatives for the year BUT…I think I have to double up and pick Gideon again this month for July. The photo is great, I love his little hooves and the ‘lazy hot summer afternoon nap in the sun’ quality.
I choose Winona. I love that picture so much, it was my background for about a month. It’s a hard choice, though. All those pictures are awesome, but I just love Winona’s pic.

So hard to pick one, but I think I would pick Hayden for July.
Hayden is just beautiful! My vote goes there this month.

Hayden, it looks like a summer day the way everything radiates warm tones, beautiful!

i will have to pick hayden he looks like he has that look of perkyness and just pure joy of being a wild horse today.
Hayden glows and I love the switch of his tail. He gets my vote.
Gideon nap. This is a great pic. It exemplifies the days of summer. I love a good nap.
Ember & Fierro
We say Gideon totally illustrates the nap you take after playing too hard during the dog days of summer… 🙂
