This was the first time I saw Roja’s firstborn, and I figured he was at or about a week old. Look at that stout little bundle of baby muscle!

Even the first-time mamas (Roja was one of a few last year: Piedra, Raven, Chipeta, Two Boots, Jif) seem to know just what to do and what their babies need. Lots of nourishing milk …
… and plenty of strength-restoring pony-naps!
That was then … A year later – today – look at the boy:

I named Ze after the greatest horse I ever owned, who was born April 6, the day I calculated was Ze’s birthday. “Ze” was part of my horse’s registered (Quarter Horse) name, but we never called him that. Oddly enough, though, it fit him perfectly.
I hope you do carry Grey/Traveler’s blood in your veins … that you may carry his legacy forward in the future of the Spring Creek Basin herd. Happy birthday, wary boy!

Another year has passed already! WOW, where does the time go. It is fun to watch the babies grow up and become harem stallions or mares having their first babies. What a great life we have to be able to spend time with these awesome creatures.
I wouldn’t be suprised if he was Grey’s son, but he does have his mom’s little belly :] It’s really neat he was born so near to Easter- I knew a sweet little filly who was born on April Fool’s. All your horses do seem to get lighter as they get older, Seven nearly looks white sometimes! What’s the possibility of Ze being Seven’s son?
Billie – You said it PERFECTLY! We are, indeed, so blessed, and I count my blessings both in and out of the basin! This year, I should see my first baby girls – from 2007 – having their own babies. Two Boots had her first last year – what a surprise that was! Where DOES the time go …?!
Rochlia – Ze is DEFINITELY Seven’s son … and I think Seven is Grey’s son. I just meant that if Ze is Grey’s grandson, especially, I’d like to see him carry that legacy on. 🙂
