Meaning

22 01 2011

We seek meaning in things around us … how long has mankind been seeking the meaning of life?

Does meaning have to exist to cause emotion?

Does language always demand a literal translation?

Human beings like to communicate – you, reader, are proof. 🙂

Does language require words?

What do you understand …?

What if all the inhabitants of this planet could understand?

Would we love more and hate less?

And we call them “dumb” animals … Oh, how words fail us.

One of my best friends was/is a trainer and she is the quietest person I’ve ever known. I’ve always said, being friends with her is like being friends with a horse. Anyone who is around them (horses) long comes to find out there is more power in silence. That’s a GREAT picture!!

The juxtaposition of their two heads together even forms the shape of a heart…

You are right, I hadn’t noticed that before. Makes the picture even more special.

The only “dumb animal” is man who thinks themselves so superior and so able to control all they we don’t understand.

I have often thought that animals understand a lot more than we think. They are not dumb. A lot of people are the dumb ones. I would trust animals a lot more than some so called humans. The pictures are wonderful, as always.

Linda – What a beautiful tribute to your friend. I can’t imagine higher praise.

I watched Jif graze her way down the hill toward Chrome and was hoping I could catch a moment where their faces were close, but I thought she’d pass on by. It lasted just a few moments, but she paused with him, and they seemed to share a moment of such tenderness, two beings that know each other and are comforted by each other.

I also tend to place more trust in animals! And I believe their language is incredibly rich and vibrant for all that they don’t “speak”! 🙂 To be immersed in their language is a gift unequaled.

All one has to do, is seek out the quiet, wherever you are. Then, stop and listen to the sounds of the wind and the creatures all around you. They’re there. They speak to each other all the time in ways we can and cannot hear. We miss so much by simply not learning to be STILL…

TJ–We got our second calendar–thank you!!! We love them. And thanks for thinking being compared to a horse is praise–I think so, too–but when I’ve said it before people have laughed like it was an insult–not hardly!

Lynn and Kathy – Well said. Sometimes it takes me a little while when I get to the basin to find my “ground” after the work week and commute and my brain going-going-going … But I always get there … the magic always surrounds me. I always come out better than when I arrived.

Linda – I’m so glad you like the calendar – and I’m sorry again for my confusion in sending you just one originally! I hold people who value horses in the highest esteem (all animals, really). When I hear someone say “I know all there is to know about horses,” I just cringe. If a person knows, the horse will confirm it, and I’ve yet to see that happen with such a “know-it-all” person!
